The recipe
Warm-Glazed Apple Bars for a Fall Baking Pan
Glazed Apple Bars are the kind of old-fashioned sheet-pan dessert that feels built for a crowded table. Chopped apples, raisins and nuts are folded into a cinnamon-spiced batter that bakes up sturdy enough to slice into bars but still soft enough to feel more like cake than cookie.
The finishing touch is what gives them their name: a simple powdered-sugar glaze spread over the bars while they are still warm. It melts slightly into the surface instead of sitting in a thick layer, giving the whole pan a sweet, lightly glossy finish.
Why it matters
Why This One Is Worth Bringing Back
These bars sit in a sweet spot between apple cake and a classic community-cookbook bar cookie. The batter is packed with apples, chopped raisins and nuts, so every square has plenty of texture rather than reading as a plain cinnamon bar.
The warm glaze is the detail that makes the recipe memorable. Spread on before the bars cool, it settles into the craggy surface instead of forming a heavy frosting layer — a small technique that gives the finished pan its old-fashioned character.

Modern kitchen notes
If You're Making It Today
These are modern editorial suggestions, not changes to the archived recipe. When a variation comes directly from the original source, we will say so.
Expect a stiff batter
The source specifically notes that the mixture will be stiff. That is normal here: the apples, raisins and nuts are suspended in a fairly dense batter before baking.
Use the full 15×10-inch pan
The printed recipe calls for a greased and floured 15×10-inch pan. Spreading the batter evenly is important so the bars bake through in the short 15 to 20 minute window.
Glaze while warm
Do not wait for the pan to cool completely. The source directs the glaze to go on while the bars are still warm, which lets it soften into the surface instead of sitting like a thick frosting.
